Union Industries freeze costly maintenance at Pioneer Foodservice
Union Industries, the UK market leading manufacturer of industrial rapid roll doors, is helping put a stop to costly maintenance at Pioneer Foodservice.
The Leeds based company, which designs, manufactures, installs and maintains its own range of fast acting doors, has installed its innovative Eiger Freezer door at Pioneer’s Carlisle site.
The Eiger replaces an outdated competitor’s door, which required regular maintenance and often interrupted employees accessing the freezer area.
Opening at approximately 1.6 metres per second, the Eiger Door closes automatically after a short dwell time, which allows for continuous traffic flow without compromising the freezer temperature, which needs to remain at a constant -28°c.
Union’s rapid roll Eiger Door utilises its high speed opening and the innovative dehumidification process to reduce moisture ingress into the freezers, which prevents ice build-up on the door blade, frame and workings, and helps eradicate snow and ice forming around the opening on the walls and floor.
In common with the other doors in the range, the Eiger door also features Union’s highly-regarded ‘Crash-Out’ damage protection facility, which ensures the door remains operable if the heavy duty steel composite bottom beam is hit by a vehicle.
Established in 1878, Pioneer Foodservice is one of the largest and longest running independent suppliers to the catering trade in the UK. With a fleet of 55 multi-temperature delivery vehicles it aims to provide high quality products quickly and efficiently.
Steve Moultrie, Technical Sales Engineer at Union Industries, said: “Our doors overcome a wide range of issues that can often be problematic for our clients. The Eiger Door has been designed to maintain a constant temperature, save energy and by preventing the build-up of snow and ice, improve health and safety in the freezer area.
“In addition, it requires minimal maintenance and has high reliability, which prevents interfering with productivity.”
Andrew Jenkins, Chairman at Pioneer Foodservice, said: “The Eiger Door has been a revelation and I have been extremely impressed with the service Union offer - I wish we had made the change sooner. The door is extremely efficient and has overcome a persistent maintenance issue.”Back to news
