Mrs ‘S’ handed over the reins as Managing Director for Union Industries to Andrew Lane in February 2014.

Since then, Andrew has greatly assisted the Company through the transition into Employee Ownership and has brought with him a more open and transparent way of working – which is important in Employee Owned companies.

More recently, Andrew has been joined in a dual-capacity with joint Managing Director Neil Edmonds. Neil has been recently promoted after his hugely successful time as Engineering Director.

Their combined energy, positivity and enthusiasm inspire confidence in all of us that the company will go on to even greater success!

Sales Director, Alan Hirst, heads up our team of dedicated salespeople, both office & field based.

The external Technical Sales Engineers cover the whole UK & Republic of Ireland, responding to enquiries for Rapid Roll Doors and various other items that Union Industries can supply, supported by our internal sales team, SIDD – Sales Intelligence Development Department.

None of our Sales Team are paid sales commissions – which means they can give you, the customer, totally unbiased opinion & advice on your door requirements. And if a Union Industries door wouldn’t be a benefit to you, then we won’t try and sell you one!!

Heading up our Production Department is Tony Metcalfe, Operations Director, who was originally apprentice trained as a mechanical engineer at a well renowned local engineering company.

Our production staff, engineers & specialist technicians have a multitude of experience, qualifications & training in various disciplines, including; fabric engineering (including high frequency welding), CNC machining, steel fabrication & welding, electrical and fitting.

We pride ourselves on the quality of workmanship by our engineers and produce what we feel is amongst some of the best engineered, and quality finished products on the market. 

Ask anyone at Union Industries and they will say that our Installation engineers & technicians are the ‘last salespeople on the job’, simply because of their manner, professionalism, tidyness, and awareness whilst working on a customers site that the customer remembers – and it’s this testimony which gets us the repeat orders. That and the good quality, robust products we provide!

Our Installation teams are made up of electrical & mechanical engineers, who are not only all well versed in their own disciplines, but are also excellent ‘all rounders’ when it comes to installing High Speed Doors.

Every one of our successfully installed doors will require some ‘TLC’ during its operational life. Pav Gosal, Service Manager, heads up our Service Department, supported by the technically adept Neil Payne, who runs our Service depot in Milton Keynes.

Our team of in-house people dedicate a proportion of their time arranging for Union Industries doors on customers sites to be serviced – many of which are covered by our Lifetime Warranty scheme. Of course, if there are any minor issues with any one of our doors, then our Technical Service Team can offer to talk through the problem on the telephone, which generally results in a quick fix, and with no cost to the customer!”

Heading up our Accounts Department is Finance Manager, Elaine Harper.

Accounts is a very important, and sometimes overlooked department within a business, but here at Union Industries, our Accounts Department is the ‘heart’ of our business.

Ensuring our suppliers are paid correctly & on-time, and also collecting payments from our customers, Elaine & the team make sure the blood of Union Industries continues to pump.  And most importantly, they ensure our wages are paid on time!

Our R&D Team utilise modern technology along with traditional engineering practices to keep Union’s existing products up-to-date and help innovate brand new, market-leading doors. It’s our ability to design a solution to meets the needs of our customers that puts us ahead of the competition, which is the main benefit of having our very own R&D department. Our Design Department, using the latest state-of-the-art CAD software, work closely with Production to manage the throughput of the bespoke Rapid Roll Doors we manufacture.

Housed in a light and airy office, our team of highly experienced design engineers and CAD draftsmen not only undertake all the Production drawings for Union Industries, as well as issuing works instructions, cutting lists etc, but are also heavily involved with on-going developments and design improvements for an array of products.

Meet Lisa & Barbara – key members of the Union ‘family’, as without these two, Union Industries wouldn’t look as ‘spick & span’ as it does!

Jenny Slight – Secretarial Support & Administration Supervisor, along with Julie, are our secretarial team.

As well as answering incoming calls and welcoming visitors at reception, they ensure that letters and quotes for our Fast Acting Doors are typed and sent out promptly for our Sales Engineers.

Our Procurement & Stores Department keep stock levels up to ensure that we cannot be caught out if a customer requires a spare part quickly!

The guys in Procurement & Stores also work closely with Production & Installations as they constantly plan ahead to make sure all parts & components are available to meet production demands, and to ensure the Union Industries 100% success rate for door installations is kept.

Using a bespoke designed database, the team constantly negotiate with suppliers, replenish stock items, monitor quality and also arrange deliveries & collections.

Tony Metcalfe, Operations Director, also oversees our Installations Department. Tony’s team plan in all Union High Speed door installs and ensure all the I’s are dotted and the T’s are crossed well in advance to ensure a trouble-free install. Completing PQQs, health & safety documentation, engineer training requirements as well as RAMS are all par for the course for the guys. We have a proud boast of a 100% success rate for installations, having never let a customer down…and they are not about to let anything spoil that impressive statistic!

With over 25+ years in the industry, Sales Director, Alan Hirst, carries a wealth of experience and knowledge when it comes to working with architects, consultants, contractors and end-users for new build, fit-out and refurbishment projects for Union doors. Supported by Project Coordinator, Simon Casewell, and the rest of the Union team, the Project Department is going from strength to strength.
